Now, 4 months later, Microsoft go public with a bit of tweaks used to fine-tune the rollup process and address IT complaints precisely how the body was working.
First idea: Customers who use Windows Update and Automatic Update aren't going through any one of these changes. The adjustments Microsoft is making are those of you that get updates from Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) every other business update-management tools.
Since October, Microsoft happens to be making available a month-to-month Rollup together with Security Only update there to IT pros on Patch Tuesday each month, and a noticeably Preview Rollup on a following Tuesday.
Adjusted December 2016, Microsoft stopped making available Security Only updates for PCs where Monthly Rollups out of your same month or later month were already installed. Microsoft went back and revised its Security Only updates for October and November 2016 to adapt to this new model.
That's one change. Microsoft which is changing how Web browser 10 and 11 are patched and updated.
Before October 2016, Microsoft made updates for IE10 for Windows Server 2012 and IE 11 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Sever 2012 R2 available separate monthly updates. Then, from October 2016 to January 2017, Microsoft made any IE fixes to make the given month the main Security Only Update. Because some business users wanted smaller package sizes to their patches, they requested choices regarding how to manage to get IE fixes.
In answer, originating in the February 2017 patching schedule, the Security Only update won't include updates for IE, and IE fixes and updates is definitely available like a separate update. The Monthly Rollup will keep to feed updates for IE as a thoughtful single update, however, so those depending these monthly rollups does not have to install IE updates separately.
May well be a handy-dandy Microsoft chart, embedded above from my post (and likewise viewable here), that could perhaps make these tweaks a little bit clearer.
