Because of smartphones and their incredible cameras, just about anyone can shoot videos for their heart's content. Though many people record videos in horizontal or landscape orientation, every so often, you'll come across vertical or portrait videos. Now, videos recorded in portrait mode can be seen on smartphones without a problem. However, on the giant screen like your monitor, it doesn't look great. One thing you can do is rotate them in order that it fits the screen. Since nearly every Windows user already has the VLC media player installed, technology-not only to rotate and save videos. Here's how.

Note: prior to making any changes to the original video, make a copy from it.

Rotate Video in VLC

Should you would like to rotate the video temporarily, VLC has got the option for that. If you want to rotate and save the recording, then stick to the second part following this.

1. To start off, open the video with VLC. While the video is playing, pause it. Next, go to the "Tools" tab and select "Effects and Filters" option.

2. The above action will open the Adjustments and Effects window. Here, visit the "Video Effects" tab and then click the "Geometry" tab. This is when you will find the relevant choices to rotate the recording in VLC.

3. Since we simply wish to rotate vertical video to horizontal, choose the "Transform" checkbox and choose "Rotate by 270 degrees" or "Rotate by 90 degrees" in the dropdown menu. Depending on the video, one of these two options show rotate the video in the proper orientation. For instance, in my case, "Rotate by 270 degrees" worked perfectly. Since you can see the changes in real-time, make a choice striking the "Save" button.

That is it. Now you can enjoy your favorite video in its correct orientation. Do keep in mind that every video you open from now on may have the rotation enabled. As you're watching other videos, you need to uncheck the "Transform" option in step 3.

Save the Rotated Video

In order to save the rotated video, you need to use the transformation and convert it. It's pretty simple. First, stick to the above steps. After you have the recording rotated, stick to the below steps.

1. After rotating the video, visit "Media" and select the "Convert / Save" option. You may also press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + R.

2. Here, you have to manually add some file. To achieve that, click on the "Add" button.

3. Go to where you've stored the recording file, select it, and then click the "Open" button. In the main window, select "Convert / Save -> Convert" option.

4. Now, select "Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4)" in the dropdown menu next to "Profiles". Next, click on the "Wrench" icon near the dropdown menu.

5. Here, visit the "Video Codec" tab. Since you want to use the transformation filter, go to the "Filters" tab. In the listing of filters, find the "Video Transformation Filter", choose the checkbox and then click the "Save" button.

6. We currently need to select a location to save the converted video. So, click the "Browse" button in the main Convert window.

7. Visit in which you want to save the file, give it a name and click on the "Save" button.

8. To begin alteration, click on the "Start" button in the primary Convert window.

9. Generally, VLC should immediately start alteration. If no, hit the "Play" button in the main VLC window. This course of action should immediately start the procedure.

10. With respect to the resolution and just how long the recording is, it will take some time to complete alteration. You can see the progress around the VLC seek bar. When the conversion process continues to be completed, the file is automatically saved towards the location you're considering earlier in step 7.

11. There's one further thing you must do. i.e, disable the transformation filter. To achieve that, go to "Tools -> Effects and Filters -> Geometry" and uncheck the "Transform" checkbox. Be sure to hit the "Save" button in order to save the alterations.
